Manchester United continue to target Mario Goetze of Borussia Dortmund and Internazionale's Wesley Sneijder as they looks to bolster the lineup in hopes of defending the Premier League crown. Having enough talent to overtake Barcelona in the Champions League is also a high priority for manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The latest transfer video from Mirror Football discusses the possibility of Goetze going to Arsenal to replace Cesc Fabregas after the Red Devils have been his main suitor to this point. He is a terrific playmaker that still has a lot of room to grow into a superstar.
The young German midfielder would seem like a great fit at Old Trafford, where he can use his passing talent to set up the likes of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov. He would also be under less pressure in the United lineup than being forced to replace Fabregas at Arsenal.
While Goetze remains a solid backup option, Ferguson and the Red Devils still have their sights set on Sneijder, who would provide an instant boost to an United offense that needed an own goal from West Bromwich Albion midfielder Steven Reid to escape their first game with a win.
The UK International Business Times reports that Sneijder has lowered his wage demands, which may allow Manchester United to complete a deal. It's a saga that was carried on far too long but finally appears to be near a conclusion, one way or another.
The name that has been getting some play in the rumor mills today has been Cheik Tiote of Newcastle. The International Business Times of Hong Kong says there are multiple reports linking the two sides and a £14 million fee.
The Ivory Coast international should be entering his prime and would provide some much needed size in the midfield for the Red Devils. That said, £14 million seems like a pretty steep price for a player with extremely limited offensive skill.
Ferguson has said a couple times over the past month that he would be staying out of the transfer market, but the rumors continue to suggest otherwise. With Sneijder willing to take smaller wages, he still seems like the most likely option.
Manchester United definitely need to make a few additions to secure their place at the top of the table, but it is yet to be seen if Ferguson will make those moves now or later.
