United manager Ferguson handed five-match ban by FA
LONDON, March 16 (Reuters) - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has been banned from the touchline for five matches, the Football Association said on Wednesday.
Ferguson, charged with misconduct after making comments about referee Martin Atkinson during post-match interviews following the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on March 1, was also fined 30,000 pounds ($48,220), the FA said in a statement.
The ban starts on March 22.
An Independent Regulatory Commission banned Ferguson for three games with the other two matches added on after a suspended ban was invoked from a similar offence in October.
Ferguson has 48 hours to appeal.
