Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Alex Ferguson Right to Call out Luis Suarez

Alex Ferguson called Luis Suarez a "disgrace," and he is right. He is a disgrace to himself, to his team and to the sport.

Ferguson launched his pointed comments after his Manchester United squad took down Liverpool 2-1. It was a contentious match, and Luis Suarez sealed the game to that fate right from the beginning.

Suarez was facing the Red Devils and Patrice Evra for the first time since serving an eight-game suspension for racist remarks made to Evra.  Understandably, tensions were high right from the beginning. The teams came out to shake hands, and Suarez lit the fuse by refusing to shake Evra's hand. You can view video of the incident here

That is what led to Fergusson making the following comment. Fergusson, as quoted by BBC.co.uk:

Suarez is a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club. He should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again. He could have caused a riot.

I couldn't believe Suarez refused Evra's handshake. You saw the referee [Phil Dowd]. He didn't know what to do. It was a terrible start to the game and it created a terrible atmosphere.

Suarez didn't waste any time trying to defend himself. He took to Twitter after the match.

Whether or not there is truth to Suarez's claim, it does not change the fact that he was dead wrong to refuse to take Evra's hand. This was a volatile situation, and all eyes were on Suarez.

He could have attempted to move past it, or he could have built it into something bigger. He chose the latter. That puts his problems, ignorance, hatred or whatever else is going that has led to this ahead of the better interest of the sport and team that pays him.

He has to be more professional than that.
