With the likes of Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley both out for the foreseeable future, Manchester United is searching for answers in the midfield. One possible option is acquiring Ki Sung-Yeung in a transfer from Celtic, and I believe that would be a major win for the Red Devils.
According to Thomas Sunderland of FootyBunker.com, United has shown interest in the 22-year-old South Korean midfielder and might be willing to pay the $7 million it would likely take to get him. Ki may not yet be an elite player, but he seems ready to make the jump from the Scottish Premier League.
Ki has been a solid producer for Celtic since coming over from FC Seoul a couple of years ago. He is currently on pace for a career year, netting six goals in 29 appearances. The Red Devils are desperate for midfield depth right now, so it seems like the right time to make a play for Ki.
Not only was Ki named South Korean Player of the Year last year, but he has also been dubbed the "Korean Scholes." That is, in reference to Paul Scholes, the Manchester United legend who was recently coaxed out of retirement by Sir Alex Ferguson to fill in for the club's injured midfielders.

Bringing in Ki would likely cut into Scholes' playing time, but I think it would be the best move for the Red Devils. Ki has excellent vision as a central midfielder and is capable both as a passer and a scorer, particularly when it comes to set pieces.
Manchester United is currently second in the English Premier League, just three points behind Manchester City. The Red Devils are coming off an impressive 3-2 victory over their rivals, but that was preceded by losses to Blackburn and Newcastle United.
The simple fact is that Manchester United needs more talent and depth among their midfielders at the moment, and Ki can provide both. Perhaps the best part about Ki is that he is still improving and he may very well earn a full-time starting spot, even when Fletcher and Cleverley return.
Ki is a great fit both for the present and the future and he should be hungry to prove himself in the EPL. The cost won't be too great, but the potential most certainly is. The club cannot let their opportunity to snag Ki go by the wayside.
