Spurs's Modric out for two weeks after surgery
LONDON, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric will be out for two weeks after having his appendix removed and could miss the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan on Feb. 15.
"The Croatia midfielder was diagnosed with acute appendicitis after contacting our medical staff complaining of abdominal discomfort," the club said on their website (www.tottenhamhotspur.com) on Wednesday.
Modric will miss fifth-placed Tottenham's Premier League clash at Blackburn Rovers later on Wednesday and is also expected to be sidelined for the home game against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday and the Feb. 12 trip to Sunderland.
The 25-year-old has been in good form again this season, helping Spurs progress in the Champions League and maintain a challenge to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Spurs, though, are suffering an injury-crisis and several players will be missing at Blackburn including most of their defence.
With Michael Dawson suspended, Younes Kaboul requiring knee surgery and William Gallas doubtful, former Real Madrid centre back Jonathan Woodgate may make his first start since November 2009. Club captain Ledley King and Tom Huddlestone are on the long-term injury list and Gareth Bale is sidelined with a back problem but Wilson Palacios could return after a knee problem.
